Paul has worked in the travel and airline industry for the past 30 years.

There have been many changes to the Travel Industry in recent years.
In 2001 the Financial Services Reform Act changed the way that Financial Products were sold to consumers.
In 2004 all travel agents required to complete training in order to sell travel insurance.

No longer can a travel agent RECOMMEND a product, nor can they say that X is better than Y.
The consumer is now offered a Brochure, which contains Financial Services Guide (FSG), a Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and General Advice Warning (GAW); the decision is then left with the consumer.

As a result of this we can only discuss things 'of a general nature' and no longer provide any specific advice, (we can only advise what a policy includes and the type of coverage provided). Specific question’s that may effect a customer can only be answered by the Insurance company directly.

Travel agents are still being paid generous commissions, BUT now are not in a position to "sell" Travel Insurance by recomendations on past clients experiences.

Over the past few years more and more people have started to book their travel arrangements on the Internet. Paul found an increasing number of enquires in the retail travel agency where he worked were from people wanting to arrange travel insurance, often only a few days before they travelled overseas.

After looking at what websites were offering those wanting to buy Travel Insurance, it became clear that the Internet was lacking clear and precise information. Existing sites offered not much more than a 'BUY NOW' product.

There are no Age limits. When Age or Medical excess amounts are added to a policy the agent earns MORE commission on those extras.
